Doubling Up

I'm so awesome.

I've just returned from the Y from my SECOND workout of the day!! I did 40 minutes this morning (20 Elliptical, 20 Treadmill) very good workout. Just in the last hour I did 20 minutes on the Elliptical and then did another 10 minutes on the Arc Trainer (see here)

The kids are out of school now so I thought I would bring them to the "youth room" for the first time, as I plan on bringing them there lots this summer. They enjoyed their time there. Yay! In fact, they will very likely NAG me to go there. :D

The double workout thing I think is a GREAT thing - as long as I don't overdo it. Today I've done 70 minutes of cardio and that is just GREAT for losing weight! Next week I'll be in Florida, there's a Y 6.5 miles from where we're staying but the hours are M-F 8-4, kinda lame... but I intend on taking advantage of it 3 times while I'm there. I think the place we're staying at has equipment, but I'm not holding my breath for it being of the quality I'm used to. I really dislike cheap, low-end equipment.

5-21-08

I got to the Y this afternoon. My goal was to do 20 minutes EACH of the Elliptical Trainer and Treadmill.

But I thought the first 30 seconds on the ET were going to kill me. God! Why was it so hard? I remembered to wear my heart rate monitor (HRM) this time and wowee!! I was upto 150 as I got started! I have no idea what my problem was. I lasted for 10 minutes, I decided that was good enough. I went really slow, I really wanted my heart rate to come down to 135-140... I was just starting out!!! Jeeze! It's not that 150 is an impossible workout, but it'll be a shorter workout and I was aiming for a longer workout this time around.

The gym was low-key and quiet, so I had my pick of machines, and I went to the recumbent bicycle. I knew with my HRM I wouldn't have to put my hands on the handle bars and I could then read with my hands being free. Yay! Seemed like it should have been a good plan but my STUPID pda kept shutting off. Made no sense, it was charged up to 49% which is not a low battery. So I got mad at it and just plugged my headphones into the tv console and then promptly ignored CNN.

So I was on the sitdown bike for 20 minutes, then I went over to this Cross-trainer thing... kind of a modified ET. HR was around 148 and I managed to keep it up that high for 10 minutes on that thing.

Grand total: 40 minutes on machines...

HRM summary: 43 minutes and 142 average heart rate. I'm pleased.

Moving More

Yay!!!!!!!! Two days in a row, I did the same workout that I did yesterday. 15 minutes on the elliptical and 15 minutes on the treadmill. and I worked hard on both.

I love my Heart Rate monitor for the feature of keeping track of my heart rate during a workout... and of course on Monday I forgot to turn the watch part of it on to keep track (duh) and today I forgot to put the monitor part that goes around your chest on! Damn! I realized that as I was climbing on to the elliptical trainer. I will otherwise keep track of my average heart rate during my work outs, something in the low 140's will be good.

I thought I had my headphones in my van, but they weren't there... so I relied on the closed captioning on the tvs to entertain me, and all the news channels were talking about was Ted Kennedy's brain tumor. But I still managed to do what I wanted to do.

I've eaten well, well kind of okay for the past two days. Last night we had pizza for dinner, but with a spinach salad and the pizza had LOTS of veggies on it. I had leftovers for lunch today. BUT EVERYTHING ELSE has been good for me. really.

I've started drinking Special K20 Water - its protein water that has 5 grams of protein and 5 grams of fiber in every packet, which you add to bottled water. I got the pink lemonade and I like it. I think it will help me. I had two yesterday.

I'd like for my plan to be to do 20 minutes each of the ET and the Treadmill, that would add up to 40 minutes, and ideally for weight loss I'll be doing 45-60 minutes of cardio 5 times a week.

Back at the Y

Yay!

I did a total of 30 minutes of cardio. 15 on an elliptical trainer, then 15 on the treadmill, walking at 3.4 mph and on an incline that varied from 1-4

I tried listening to a book "on tape" from Audible.com but I think I need to get used to the idea of listening to a book.

My stupid desktop computer is down and that is the only computer in the house that lets my PDA talk to Rhapsody, my mp3 player and music service respectively. Good music is best for working out to. But we'll see.

I'm even going to try and go again tonight after the kids go to bed.

New Start #3,954

Well, I'm starting AGAIN. A real goal, mostly a real plan...

To lose 30lbs by the end of the year. And my reward will be laser hair removal. Wooo-hoo! I really want this and the only way I'm going to allow myself to get this, IF I lose the weight!!! Get fit and toned!

It's not totally about the scale, its about being fit and having a body that shows that. I want clothes to fit better. I want to sit down and not have this serious pouch of fat hanging on my lower stomach. Ugh... it just has to be gone. And and I want to be nice and toned, to look damned good in a tank top, with a reasonably flat tummy.

I'm starting at 180.. and I'll be aiming for 150... I have 32 weeks to accomplish this and I know I can do it.

New Goal

This is a new goal I've had rolling around in my head for a while... and that is...

TO LOOK GOOD IN A YOGA TOP.

When I find a pic I will post it.

How am I going to get there? Eat less and move more. And how am I going to do that? ughhhh.... the agony! My goal this week will be 30 minutes of cardio 4x.... maybe 5x. No freakin' excuses!!!! and no junk food this week.

If I hold myself to these goals I will treat myself with something to be determined.

I'm shaking hands with myself here. It's officially a deal.

Starting AGAIN

Well, I thought I was going to try to lose weight about two months ago... and nothing really happened. I couldn't change my habits... there was just enough stress going on I thought, dammit, I DESERVE and NEED that cheeseburger...

I know I can't do that if I'm going to be successful.

EAT LESS and MOVE MORE is my simple diet.

If I eat right (no junk) during the week, then I can reward myself with a patty melt on Friday. Also, this week I have to exercise 3 times this week before Friday for that patty melt.

Today at lunch I exercised in the building for 20 minutes. I walked around and up the stairs from the basement to the balcony lobby - the equivalent of 4 floors... I did that 5 times plus miscellaneous walking. Oh boy, that was harder than I thought it would be... my legs turned to jelly twice, just before the last few steps to get to the top... I bet if I keep doing this, by the end of the week, it won't be a problem.

Not gonna happen

Well, I totally didn't think of packing clothes for a lunchtime workout.. heck, I didn't even pack a lunch. A lunchtime workout is not gonna happen. And not likely tonight either. It's like a Friday... I wanna party - ha ha, an extra drink or two hanging out on the porch.

Visited the Uptown Y

There's a Y within walking distance of where I work.... I hope to go there for lunch in the future... like tomorrow even! I wanted to make sure I could find it as well as check out if it was crazy zany (it wasn't really). I need to remember to pack a gym bag tonight, and pack a lunch (or more likely two heavy snacks).

At least twice a week, maybe 3 times I could...

  • 11:30 have a snack,
  • 12:30 leave for my lunch hour
  • 12:40 get there
  • 12:45 start cardio
  • 1:15 finish up
  • 1:20 quick shower and back to work clothes
  • 1:30/1:35 be back at work
  • 2:00/2:30 have another snack

I think this is all do-able!!!! I'm totally psyched that it is totally reasonable to lose 30+ pounds in 26 weeks!

Eat Less and Move More!!

Back at it!

I joined the Y last week. It was mostly for the pools they have, to do something fun with the kids more often. I get a slight (10%) discount from work and plus there are locations all over the place I can visit.

Today was my first workout! Woo-Hoo!! yeah, right... I started on the elliptical trainer and I thought I was going to die after 4 minutes. Somehow I managed to push myself to 5 minutes and then I jumped off and went to the treadmill. I did 20 minutes there. I did about 3.8 mph the whole time and I played around with the incline. I really felt like I was working it! That's good. But sheesh, I am so out of shape!

Monday, January 08, 2007

I did it! I did my first 2 mile walk at lunch. It went well, even though I forgot my sunglasses. So much for a fitness walk... I started off with a cigarrette! LOL... even starting off, at the foot of the Shelby Street Bridge, and going UP HILL... it can really be a bitch of a hill for flabby people like me, some older guy was walking up behind me, and he commented "damn, if she can do that hill with a cigaretter, she's good to go!" yeah right... but I did it! And it felt GREAT! I'm going to try and get some other people at work ready to do this too! Hopefully I'll have a chance to get a flyer together this afternoon... I'm thinking of a headline... "put on your walking shoes" ?

Steps taken today: 12,450

Got myself into the gym even though my legs were sore from my workout yesteday. I meant to do 30 minutes but I ended up doing 35 minutes! Yay me!! Yesterday at Target I got a heart rate monitor, it was a good price and I've been interested in one for quite a while. I did 15 minutes on the elliptical trainer, 10 on the Arc trainer and 10 on the bike. Felt good!

I also today looked up walking routes around work I could do at lunch. I was able to come up with a good one that is a 2 mile loop going over the river downtown twice! :) It'll be fun. And the weather forecast says no rain at least the early part of this week. I'm thinking about asking others at work if they're interested in joining me.... maybe. Let's see if I do it first of all... but then getting others involved is a good way to keep myself involved.

Finally got into the gym... it's hard. I was so friggin' stressed out this past week. I want life to be easier!!! and then I'll take better care of myself..... I know I know, it doesn't work that way. Stress will be better handled as I exercise more (and PMS is absent)....

Today at the gym I did 20 minutes of cardio (10 minutes on the treadmill and 10 on the elliptical trainer) and then did a full body strength training workout. Took it easy, only 2 sets of 2 different exercises per muscle group.

Went to the gym, did 20 minutes on the elliptical trainer. Didn't feel to hard at all!! Rock on Kim!

I'm going to try this blog again... I've got to get serious about losing weight. the 35 extra pounds I had before have turned into 45 extra pounds, but I'm lessening up on my goal weight by 5 this time... oh screw it! I'm going to tell speak numbers... it's just easier, and if I dont' like it, then I better do something to change it. I'm just under 180 now. I should be around 140... I used to have 130-135 as a goal weight... maybe I will weigh that again, but it just seems like a low low number. 140 sounds like a reasonable number. and yes, the doctors charts also say 140 with a medium frame is also a reasonable number.

Today's exercise was just doing a stretching video. It helped. My body simply needs to move more.

Introduction

This blog is called Lose Kim Lose because I want to tell the story of me losing 35lbs. I can't say I've ever had much of a weight problem. My extra pounds have crept up on me over the years, I did lose those extra pounds over two years ago but I quit what I was doing and the pounds came back very quickly.

I know I can lose weight and I know what I have to do to keep the weight off... I think I've recently found a form of excercise I don't want to live without (running - check out www.runkimrun.com). So I think I'm in a better place than I was before.

I intend on sharing what I've been doing, what I'm eating, confess when I'm being bad, share articles about healthy eating and fitness on my blog.
